Brad Pitt stars as Lt. Aldo Raine, who assembles a team of Jewish soldiers to commit violent acts of retribution against the Nazis. I saw IB for the first time, just a few days before this thread was started, as I saw it on Netflix' new releases list.

I do love Tarantino's other movies, so it may not be a surprise,. This film is so good. I am not sure how to describe it but the way it plays around the pacing with none events happening but at the same time creating on the edge of my seat tension.

Like I said pretty bad description but I honestly cannot articulate it or think of another film that manages to do this in the same way.

The scene in the bar is one of the best ever. Twenty minutes on the edge of your seat and then how quickly it escalates. Amazing stuff.

The clinking when the server is scooping the cream gave me harsh goosebumps the first few times I saw it. The only movies that even remotely have the pacing and structure of Inglourious Basterds are Tarantino's other movies.

And therein lies his genius. No other director has even come close to replicating his style and plotting successfully IMO.

That's because this is the historical or real life Tarintino universe. I think it also includes Django and maybe Jackie Brown?

I know the movie universe is like Kill Bill and others. I knew I didn't explain it very well. When I say none event I mean more the calm before the storm.

Such as having a glass of milk or playing "who am I? I know what you mean. The dialogue in the film is great and even when it's just a long scene where characters are talking, it's always super interesting.

One of my favorite films for sure. Because i remember a cut of the bombs going off around their ankles, so why didn't they take the bombs off?

They were on the upper level and it seemed like they could leave, so why didn't they? Again I'm probably just an idiot. Just watched it.

I think they were going in to die so that fate was accepted. But plot twist, they got to gun down nazis and shoot apart hitlers face.

To a soldier, this is A glory better than watching the whole place burn and live to tell. In terms of purely popcorn-style movie-going entertainment value, I'd agree.

But that's the great thing about Tarantino--he makes his movies specifically with something in mind that he wants to do, as opposed to what a general audience will want to see, which means that when it comes down to it, they're all exceptional movies, but in very different senses.

Jackie Brown is criminally underrated and I wish you had mentioned it. I think it's some of his best work. I will say, however, that the basement bar scene in Inglorious Basterds is without a doubt the best scene in any movie Tarantino has ever done.

Every single facet of that scene is absolutely perfect. The dialogue, the camerawork, the set, literally everything is perfect.

I love Jackie brown -- I actually almost mentioned it as being, IMO, second place to pulp fiction but then I figured that not as many people would agree with that as would agree with the other stuff I said and I didn't feel like having to go through an explanation so I just didn't mention it.

Although I do think PF and RD are close -- for me, the separating factor is that everything in those movies almost seems like it happens entirely within the context of a story, if that makes sense.

I disagree. I think Inglorious Bastards was of an overall higher quality. But, hey, to each their own. I love almost everything Tarentino has touched, though I have to say the Kill Bills were my least favorite out of everything he has done.

I LOVED the kill bills because of the fact that I could couldn't stop imagining how giddy Tarantino must have been about making each and every part.

I imagine him sitting there cackling maniacally to himself at each cinematic choice. Christoph Waltz fully deserved his Oscar for his dazzling, diabolical performance as Col.

Hans Landa, blending seductive charm and monstrous malice in four different languages. I chortled when he pulled that out.

Then later realized its true purpose - to demonstrate his pocket is large enough to conceal a shoe. That scene is my favorite in any film.

I saw this three times in theaters taking a different set of friends every time because I told them they HAD to see it. He did so well that I only see him as that character in other movies.

I think I've only seen him once recently in a movie, but still. Loved this movie. Something about it that no one thinks about that tarantino shows what it was like to be a German during ww2.

We westerners anyway go "duck yea look at them shoot up nazis and Hitler, they were so evil", but that's exactly how Germany was brainwashed into looking at the rest of the world.

The movie about the German sniper in the theater is a perfect example of that. Slow down there son. Germans are and were anti-semites well before fucking Adolf and his cock-sucking friends were even born.

Hell before the Spanish Inquisition would've been the go to example of Jewish persecution. Section From the early Middle Ages to the 18th century, the Jewish settlers in Germany were subject to many persecutions as well as brief times of tolerance.

Though the 19th century began with a series of riots and pogroms against the Jews, emancipation followed in , so that, by the early 20th century, the Jews in Germany were the most integrated in Europe.

The situation changed in the early s with the rise of the Nazis and their explicitly antisemitic program. Hate speech which referred to Jewish citizens as "dirty Jews" became common in antisemitic pamphlets and newspapers such as the Völkischer Beobachter and Der Stürmer.

Narrowly escaping with her life, she plots her revenge several years later when German war hero Fredrick Zoller takes a rapid interest in her and arranges an illustrious movie premiere at the theater she now runs.

With the promise of every major Nazi officer in attendance, the event catches the attention of the "Basterds", a group of Jewish-American guerilla soldiers led by the ruthless Lt.

Aldo Raine. As the relentless executioners advance and the conspiring young girl's plans are set in motion, their paths will cross for a fateful evening that will shake the very annals of history.

Inglourious Basterds received critical acclaim, with Waltz receiving wide praise for his performance. According to the site's critical consensus, "A classic Tarantino genre-blending thrill ride, Inglourious Basterds is violent, unrestrained, and thoroughly entertaining.

I am a bot. Send me feedback. Data sources and other information. As a Tarantino fan this is gonna be my first time actually sitting down and experiencing this movie in its entirety.

Without exaggeration, the long opening scene of this film is the best opening scene in any movie I have ever seen. Django Unchained is another movie by Tarantino that is great.

Very much like IB, only a former slave takes retribution on a slave owner and his cohorts to save his wife. Watch this one too, you won't be disappointed.

Django was almost perfect, but the ending dragged on far too long. It should have wound up after, well, not to spoil anything, but that one scene.

They should have stopped it there and called it a day. Instead there's another half hour or some shit. I mean, I'll disagree simply because I think IB is his best.

But yes, I also think Django is overrated. IB was full of interesting and complex characters who managed to be incredibly human and incredibly cartoonish at the same time.

Django was ridiculously uncomplicated. Fun and hilarious, but not as interesting as IB. I can't not see Brad Pitt.

I don't hear his character's accent; I hear Brad Pitt doing a derpy voice. I don't hear a well-meaning country American struggling with European language; I hear Brad Pitt doing a gag.

Don't get me wrong, I like Brad Pitt. Maybe I've just seen him in too many similar roles. Is it just me? For what it's worth: although I didn't have this problem with Inglourious Basterds or Brad Pitt in general, I know exactly what you mean because the same thing happens to me with Leonardo Dicaprio.

For what it's worth: although I didn't have this problem with Inglourious Basterds or Brad Pitt in general, I know exactly what you mean because the same thing happens to me with Leonardo Dicaprio.

Maybe it's because the first role I saw him play was Romeo? However this just makes my complaint stand out all the more.

I see Waltz's incredible performance and then I see. Brad Pitt. Then compare it to honestly every other performance in the film.

All amazing! He is a demented Looney Tune cartoon of a character compared to the others, who would otherwise be WAY too dramatic for the absurdity of the film without him.

The plot is crazy. It starts normal enough, but it veers solidly into Tarantino-land in the third act. Then you would have roughly serious actors doing serious bits in an absurd film.

Which wouldn't work. Pitt's outrageous performance keeps the entire film in a cartoony kind of realm that it can actually work in.

I think tarantino intended this and directed pitt this way. Sortof an all american blonde soldier generic comic relief.

This is probably another controversial opinion but while Pitt performed well enough in this movie, I thought the best scenes were the ones he wasn't in.

I would think the movie would work well if you only see Brad Pitt doing a really hammy performance.

Tom Cruise is like this for me too, but a thousand times worse because he only ever plays the same hardcore action hero guy.

Dang it. I just had a huge hankering for that film like two weeks ago, so I watched a shitty, compressed downloaded version.

I remember seeing this when it first came out and really enjoying it. I felt, at the time, though that the theater subplot detracted from what otherwise could have been even more Nazi killing.

It's been so long though and I didn't have the appreciation for his films that I do now. So I definitely need to do a rewatch.

Probably feel different the next time around. Just watched this and by god it's an amazing movie. It's this weird combination of being really dark, but incredibly funny at the same time, and Hans is such an incredible character.

Seriously, watch it just for him Matt talked to Paul Rust about his small part in this movie and it was really, really interesting. This is the black hole of comments, I mean I know what it says, but I just don't understand it.

I really don't get what people loved in this movie.
